MANDATORY JAIL FOR 2ND OR SUBSEQUENT DUI: Effective in mid-August of 2017 a new law passed in the State of Colorado now requires mandatory jail sentences for ALL DUI convictions unless it is the driver's first offense. Not that we needed any additional reasons to remind us to be safe, but PLEASE call an Uber, Lyft or a taxi to avoid driving after drinking. WARNING TO ANYONE SETTLING DEBTS: Just a little information that could be helpful to anybody out there who may be considering settling a debt. According to the Internal Revenue Code, any amount of debt that is "cancelled" is considered taxable income. So, for example, say you have a past-due credit card and the balance owed is $10,000. Say you then work out a deal with that creditor to pay $6,000 to resolve that debt. Since $4,000 in debt was "cancelled" in that transaction, the creditor is required to send you a 1099-c Form for $4,000, and then you will pay taxes as if you earned $4,000 in additional regular income when you file your tax return.
