After a long trip away, I finally got back to my favorite Pink Advocate companion. 🩷🐾

Most people see a big fluffy dog. I see a member of our team.

For survivors of sexual abuse, walking into a lawyer's office can mean reliving some of the most painful moments of their lives. Telling their story is often necessary, but that doesn't make it easy. Every intake, every meeting, every deposition preparation can bring back memories of trauma they never asked to carry.

That's where this guy comes in.

A therapy dog can't change what happened. He can't undo the trauma. But he can offer something incredibly important: comfort, safety, and a reminder that not everyone in the room is asking something from you.

Research has shown that therapy dogs can help reduce anxiety, lower stress, and create a sense of calm during difficult conversations. Sometimes survivors need a hand to hold. Sometimes they need a paw.

We are proud to have him available in our office for clients who want a little extra support as they navigate the legal process. Because seeking justice is hard enough. No one should have to do it alone.

And after being away, I can honestly say I needed this reunion just as much as he did. 🩷

Some lawyers found a new keyword to buy.

“Sexual assault attorney.”

That does not mean they have handled these cases.
That does not mean they understand survivors.
That does not mean they are safe with your story.

And let’s not pretend the legal industry is immune from the very misconduct it claims to fight.

If someone wants the privilege of representing you in a sexual assault case, they do not get to hide behind a polished website, a dramatic ad, or the right hashtags.

Look them up.

Ask how many sexual assault cases they have personally handled.
Ask who will actually work on your case.
Ask how they prepare survivors for the litigation process.
Ask whether they pressure clients to file.
Check their history. Check disciplinary records. Check whether public allegations, lawsuits, or complaints exist.

That is not paranoia.

That is discernment.

Your trauma is not a lead source.
Your story is not inventory.
Your trust is not owed to anyone who learned how to run an ad.

The dream was the point.

The dance intensive.
The theater camp.
The STEM program.
The academic summer immersion.

A chance to be around people who finally get it.

The talented kids.
The ambitious kids.
The creative kids.
The ones chasing something bigger.

And sometimes that dream comes wrapped in something dangerous:

Admired instructors.
Older mentors.
Overnight programs.
Private coaching.
Authority disguised as opportunity.

Nobody wants to believe harm can happen in spaces built around talent and potential.

That disbelief is often what protects the wrong people.

Because admiration should never become access.

And mentorship should never become power without accountability.

A summer meant to shape confidence should never shape silence.

Put in to help.
Left to harm.

That is the betrayal.

A medical device is not supposed to become the thing that makes a patient worse.

A hip implant should not fail inside someone’s body.
Surgical mesh should not create new damage while claiming to repair old damage.
A pacemaker should not malfunction when someone is depending on it to keep rhythm with life itself.

And yet, when medical devices fail, patients are often told to wait.

Monitor it.
Come back if it gets worse.
Maybe it is just your body reacting.

Convenient.

Because by the time someone realizes the device may be the problem, the company that made it has already sold it, profited from it, and moved on to the next patient.

Product liability is not just about broken appliances and bad tires.

Sometimes the defective product is inside your body.

And when that happens, the questions get serious.

Who designed it?
Who tested it?
Who warned patients?
Who knew there were problems before you ever went under anesthesia?

If a medical device was put in to help you and left you harmed instead, that deserves more than a shrug and a follow-up appointment.
