"Despite President Trump’s claims that his administration’s immigration crackdown and mass deportation efforts are focusing on “dangerous immigrants,” statistics show the opposite is true. When the detention numbers were at their highest, the ICE data showed that 33,380 of the people detained by ICE did not have any criminal charges or convictions in the U.S. Nearly half of the people being held were classified as immigration violators, solely
because of civil violations of U.S. immigration law. Only 26% of those in detention, or 17,729 people, had criminal convictions, and another 26%, or 17,881 people, had pending criminal
charges."
