Pa amb tomaquet or pan con tomate is a delicious treat from Spain. All you need is bread, tomatoes, olive oil, and salt. Our family has been eating this lots lately to take advantage of the tomatoes from our garden! But the best place to eat it in Spain! This picture is from Bar Jaica in Barcelona.

Ceviche is one of my favorite foods! This ceviche is from Toro Latin Kitchen.

Peruvian ceviche developed as part of Nikkei cuisine. After WWII, Peru received a huge influx of immigrants from Japan who brought their own cooking techniques with them. Once they arrived they used Japanese techniques and ingredients and combined them with local Andean dishes to create a whole new type of cuisine. Peruvian food is lauded all over the world because it’s absolutely delicious! And it’s the unique combination of flavors that make it so special.

Plan a trip to Peru! And get ready for it by learning some Spanish from me!

My husband went to Argentina and brought me back a mate and a book of poems by Pablo Neruda (he’s Chilean).

Here are some fun facts about Argentina and mate 🧉:

🧉Argentina has a population of 45 million people

🧉 Buenos Aires has a population of 15 million people
🧉Argentina is known for its steak, but it’s cuisine is heavily influenced by Italian food due to immigration in the early 20th century. Think pasta, pizza, and amazing ice cream.
🧉Mate is a drink that is made from la yerba mate. The drink gets its name from the gourd, which is called a mate.
🧉Drinking mate is a shared and communal experience where everyone sits in a circle and shares the same bombilla (this is the metal straw that also acts as a filter).
🧉 Argentina is the world’s largest producer of mate producing 56% to 62% of total production annually.

If you’re new to this space, I’d like to introduce myself!
I’m a Denver native
I speak five languages
I’ve lived in Denver, Utrecht, the Netherlands, Southern California, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Catalunya, Spain, Vermont, and Ecuador!
I’ve worked multicultural education since I was 19.
I have three sons who keep me on my toes
I’m married to Jed, love of my life. We met in Ecuador.
We have two dogs named Rio and Mojito
Our last travel was to Iceland. Mexico or Colombia will be our next! Where will you go on your next adventure?

I'm still accepting students for my June Music Lingua Life on the Ocean session! Join now!

Music Lingua uses songs, dance, storytelling, and crafts to teach young kiddos aged baby to five years-old Spanish. Life on the Ocean is perfect for the summer months. I'd love to teach your children Spanish!

When: June 6 - June 29
Monday and Wednesday 10 - 11am

Where: St. Thomas Episcopal Church
2201 Dexter St.

Cost: $170 includes fabulous materials: musical CD, download, storybook, activities workbook and a toy. Siblings over the age of 1 are an additional $75. If you would like to join the class but may miss a few, I'm happy to pro-rate the cost for you.
