An argument at home can escalate quickly. Someone calls 911, police arrive, conflicting accounts are given, and one person is arrested for assault involving family violence.

But what happens if the person who made the accusation later says they don't want to press charges?

In Texas, the alleged victim does not personally control whether a criminal case continues. Prosecutors may consider 911 recordings, body-camera footage, photographs, text messages, witness statements, medical records, and other evidence even when the people involved later reconcile.

Flock cameras can photograph a vehicle, read its license plate, and alert police when the plate has been connected to a stolen vehicle, warrant, or investigation.

But a computer-generated hit is not infallible proof. Plates can be misread, alerts can be outdated, and identifying a vehicle does not necessarily identify its driver. Police must also have sufficient legal justification for the stop, detention, search, and arrest that follow.
