Are you a landlord?

Before you create or renew a lease, make sure you review both California state law and your local city ordinances.
Many landlords do not realize that local rules can override state law. A simple oversight can lead to costly disputes, invalid notices, or limits on what you can legally include in your lease.
Here are a few examples:
• Some cities require specific lease disclosures.
• Others have strict rules about rent increases, notice periods, or just cause requirements.
• A lease that looks fine under state law might still violate your city’s municipal code.
Taking the time to understand the rules up front can save you from major issues later if anything occurs with your tenants!
