Not your ordinary college advisor lol…

Top wins this week with me, Ms. G., founder of - two decades of concierge college & trade advising for 13-23 year olds (in-person & hybrid 1:1 nationwide).

1. An SD tenth grader missed the deadline for starting his own club. Why wait for the high school? Start your OWN community. We explored career and major paths, how he could create events, community, private speakers, and work with the association that relates to that career.

2. Shadowing opportunity for a ninth grader interested in the medical field. However, a little too young. Researched Yelp, shadow, see if we could interview them, podcast, basically build your own brand and knowledge and connections in that field.

3. Senior Acceptances 20+: Georgia Tech, Brown, Michigan, UPenn, Penn State, Ohio State, Arizona State, UDUB-University of Washington, CAL, all UCs, Irvine, USD, USC, SDSU, NYU, Columbia, and more.

4. Prepped a junior in college for a jobbie after 3 interviews and lots practice going over questions, “Tell me about you” statement. It was a win. She got the job.

5. Walked Mission Bay with a student who got accepted into graduate school. Super exciting. She wanted to stay in a certain state, absolutely loves it.

There is no one path fits all. Each program is completely geared to your specific teen, their learning style & social/academic/career goals.

Those are the wins this week. Thanks for watching. Should we do more of these? Was this helpful? Questions? Was this cool? Let me know.

She works with 300 students. I had to sit with that.

300 students. 45-minute phone calls. No face. No real connection. 3 essays. 3 schools. Doesn’t even meet your teen until you’ve already paid. 🤯

That’s not advising. That’s a conveyor belt.🍫😂

Here’s what my families actually get:

✅ 17-point audit before we do anything
✅ Life goals, learning style, anxiety triggers, leadership style
✅ Weekly check-ins + Tuesday texts when life happens
✅ SAT accountability built into their schedule
✅ Quarterly roadmaps - never a template
✅ In-home, Zoom, hybrid - wherever they need me

I know their sense of humor. I know what lights them up. I know exactly what makes their story impossible to ignore. Annnd, I get to see prom pics before parents sometimes! Lol.

I take a small number of students per class year. On purpose.

Your teen is not a number and shouldn’t be treated like one.

🎯 Summer tip: Start your SAT prep NOW and pick one project this summer that actually connects to your future major or career. That’s what stands out.

From stem-cell research obsessed at 15 to esthetician 18 year olds - I’m constantly blown away by teens today!

This past Tuesday, I had the opportunity to speak as a guest for a group of dedicated students via .

Teens value real, raw, no sugar-coating stories and experiences.

Upon sharing my journey, my ups and downs, and even my current goals of combining two worlds (College Consulting and Electrical Apprenticeship), teens learned some huge shifts embarking in college and trades. Project based outlets…scholarships…& working towards your bigger 5-year vision.

Hands-on, dreaming big…without any money, time or other commitments, what WOULD you do?

🙌Here are a few questions from our worksheets:

How would you spend your time?

How would you help people?

What would you LIKE to do if money was no object?

How can we work backwards from this big life goal?

A huge thing that came up – students are constantly thinking about college and their job, yet they don’t think about the life they actual want to live.

What they want to do during the day and how they can design that.

Just because a lawyer makes a ton of money, would you really want to work over 40/80/100 hours a week?

➡️What career fascinates you?

➡️What would you like to learn about?

How could you incorporate studying and learning about the things you love, with your time commitments?

Would you like to have a family someday, how does this all work together?

This workshop was REAL…and I’m happy a few things hit home. 🥰

Parents - send this to your teen so they can journal some cool topics this weekend. You never know, it might help them with their future job application, college app essays, or change their perspective about the route they’re taking.

Let me know how it goes!

Hugs,

Ms. G.

Curious about Letters of Recommendation? Let’s be extraaaaa! Don’t leave college admissions to chance.🙌

Letters of Recommendation: Top 3 Rules

1. Start early — don’t wait.
Identify 3–4 teachers and ask 4–6 months in advance (January/February of junior year is ideal).

2. Prepare a polished packet.
Include:
• Edited resume (GPA, Test scores, awards, jobs, internships, leadership, athletics, clubs, projects, service)
• Academic focus aligned with top 3–5 intended majors

3. Show personality + direction.
Add:
• Personal insights (traits, creativity, character)
• College list + why each school/program fits

Then follow up with a professional email + full packet by March–April AND EMAIL IT TO THEMMMM!💜

4. Write every teacher, manager, etc. a handwritten thank you note for writing you a letters of recommendation and give them a little gift. 🎁 Could just be something small, but show a token of your appreciation. I always give chocolate, because I love receiving chocolate lol. 😂

The difference?
Teachers write specific, compelling letters-not generic summaries.

If your 13-16 year old is feeling overwhelmed, now is the time to build a clear, strategic plan.

Parents – when should you start preparing for college applications? High achieving middle schoolers don’t waste their summers. They build their resumes early!

This is a common question I get asked often. Many parents say they wish they would’ve found me before their teen’s junior year.

Some believe kids should just be kids, while others regret they waited too long and didn’t give their kids the best opportunities for a competitive future.

Regardless, kids’ minds are sponges. Make the best use of your summer!

For 13-17 year olds, exploring their interests during spring break/summer - whether that’s robotics or other activities - through fun camps and experiences, can really set them apart. This approach helps kids feel a sense of ownership, develop new skills, and build confidence by having tangible accomplishments to include on their resume.

Parents - do you need support for your middle schooler for competitive college admissions?

Wait-your student got INTO a college…and now you need to decline it? 😳

A parent asked me this yesterday-here’s how to do it right:

• Don’t ghost (keep doors open-transfers, grad school, future ops)• Keep it short + classy• Use the right channel (Common App, UC portal, or direct email)• Do it by May 1 (free up spots + scholarships for others)• Double-check money first-you can ask for more 💰

Drop a simple, polite email-and you’re done ✔️

some guidance with college or career support, please reach out. I offer a pre-consultation.

The best part about working with teens 13-17?❤️

Laughing over their exciting weekend - a school dance, basketball game, or a family and friends bbq😂

Choosing which coffee shop cookie we’ll share (or not…and get out own)

Trimming down our major list from 30 to top 5

Reaching out to colleges and talking with faculty on the phone together (talking on the phone can be scary, I get it)

Discussing the importance of early letters of recommendations

Editing a résumé and making it stand out in a summer program

Brainstorming cool topics for our College Essays

Working closely with the teen to build out a 14-day or six month plan – working around the student’s busy schedules

Trimming down the teen’s college list from 49 to top 15.

To SAT, ACT, or neither chat.😈

Honestly?! Every. Moment. Is. Awesome! 🔥

I feel so incredibly lucky dozens of families have chosen me as the lucky person to help guide them every step of the way.

Best. Fun. Ever!

And guess what juniors? This time next year, we’ll be deciding which colleges you’ll accept, attend, & start building our college packing list, apply to scholarships, and so much more.

This is the ONE thing teens can do to show teachers their leadership (when it comes to improving their grades…)

🙌Parents – if your teen is struggling academically, empower them to communicate with their teachers to go above and beyond.

Let’s share a real life scenario – struggling academically in _____ subject (say math or reading):

Top five questions I ask my students:
1. Can you get (math/reading) assignments early to review with the teacher?
2. Do you have questions about what the assignments are asking? Can you write them down and ask the teacher?
3. What is specifically difficult or challenging about the assignments?
4. Have you stayed after class, during lunch, or even come before class to get help?
5. Is there free tutoring during after school hours or a free period?
6. Bonus: Can you ask the teacher in person or via email for extra credit, if you have done the above? I always offer the email option just in case talking in person is too scary.

❌What to AVOID?

Waiting until the last minute to speak up and advocate for yourself.

Don’t ask for extra credit one day before assignments are due.

Instead, PREPARE EARLY!!! Now is the time to get ahead of the next term – let’s go! 🙏

Parents - do you & your 8-11th grader need guidance for GPA, college lists, extracurricular activities for competitive college admissions?

It can be stress-free & exciting to plan your teen’s future! There are some phenomenal college programs out there…with great fits for students of all capabilities. Let’s go!

I offer a complimentary 15-min. consultation. Feel free to reach out. Link in bio or DM me COLLEGE to learn more.
