This is Still Make-A-Will Month!

Have you ever wondered, “What exactly is a Will?”

A Will is a legal document that lets you put your wishes in writing for what you want to happen to certain things after you die.

A Will can:

• Name the person you want to handle your estate.
• Say who you want to receive your personal belongings and other assets.
• Leave instructions about things that are important to you.
• For parents of minor children, a Will can also be used to nominate a guardian for their children.

And here’s something many people don’t realize:

You don’t have to be wealthy or own a lot of property to have a Will.

A Will is simply a way to make your wishes known and help your loved ones know what you wanted.

August is Make-A-Will Month—so if you don’t have a Will yet, maybe this is the month to start thinking about it. ❤️

Make-A-Will Month — Tip #3💙

August is Make-A-Will Month, and I’m continuing my 5-day series with a simple but important reminder.

Tip 3. Keep Your Original Will Safe — and Make Sure It Can Be Found

Once you have your will completed, where you keep the original is just as important.

You want it protected from being lost, damaged, or accidentally thrown away. But you also don’t want it tucked away in such a secret place that no one can find it when it is needed.

At least one trusted person should know that you have a will and where the original is kept. They don’t necessarily need to know everything that is in your will. They simply need to know where to find it when the time comes.

Having a will is important—but making sure your loved ones can actually find it is just as important. 💙

Make-A-Will Month — Tip #2 💙

August is Make-A-Will Month, and I’m continuing my 5-day series with a simple but important reminder.

Tip #2: Review Your Will After Life Changes

A Will you made a few years ago may not reflect your life today.

Major life events—like marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, the passing of someone named in your Will, or even moving to a new state—are all good reasons to take another look at your documents.

Even if nothing big has changed, it’s still wise to review your Will every so often. Life and relationships naturally evolve over time.

If you do notice something that no longer fits, don’t make handwritten changes. The proper way to update a Will is to speak with an attorney so it’s done correctly and legally.

A quick review can help ensure your Will still reflects your wishes today—not just the past.
