The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a nationwide injunction temporarily barring the Biden administration’s student loan debt relief program.

Six states challenged the program: Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, and South Carolina, based on a potential loss of state revenue. Five of the states could not prove a likley injury to legally challenge the program and establish standing.

However, the appeals court stated that Missouri had shown a likely injury since the student loan servicer Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) would lose revenue under the program. MOHELA is headquartered in Missouri.

Since one party established standing they did not need to address the other states. The injunction will remain in effect until the Supreme Court intercedes. Sorry, everyone!
