๐ฎ๐น Happy Columbus Day! ๐บ๐ธ
Today, as we recognize Christopher Columbus, the famed explorer born in Genoa, Italy, we also celebrate the rich Italian heritage of artistry, ingenuity, craftsmanship, and contributions that have helped shape America.
From the grandeur of ancient Roman monuments to the architectural masterpieces of the Renaissance, Italians have a remarkable history of building things that stand the test of time. That tradition crossed the Atlantic, where generations of Italians brought their skills and talents to some of America's most iconic landmarks.
๐๏ธ The Lincoln Memorial: The magnificent 19-foot marble statue of Abraham Lincoln was carved by the Piccirilli brothers, a family of Italian stonecutters, from sculptor Daniel Chester French's design.
๐ฟ Mount Rushmore: Italian craftsman Luigi Del Bianco served as chief carver, helping bring the four presidents' faces to life with extraordinary skill and precision.
๐บ๐ธ The U.S. Capitol: Rome-born artist Constantino Brumidi painted the breathtaking Apotheosis of Washington fresco inside the Capitol dome, along with many elaborate murals throughout the building.
๐ฆ The New York Public Library: The iconic marble lions, Patience and Fortitude, were carved by the talented Piccirilli brothers.
These are just a few examples of the countless Italians whose artistry, determination, and skilled hands helped shape America's architectural heritage.
As real estate professionals, we have a special appreciation for the buildings, historic homes, and enduring craftsmanship that connect us to generations past.
And with Italian roots in our own SPURR Group family, we're especially proud to celebrate a heritage built on hard work, family, tradition, and the pursuit of something lasting.
โค๏ธ๐ค๐ Here's to honoring our heritage, appreciating the craftsmanship of yesterday, and building a legacy for tomorrow!
