Did the Governor's office conduct a pay to play routine with the no bid BYD mask contract? I had the honor of helping Katy Grimes of the California Globe obtain documents under the California Public Records Act. Ms. Grimes was kind to mention my help in her article.

This article connects a lot of dots about the use of over a Billion of taxpayer dollars.

New details are emerging about Gov. Gavin Newsom's $1.4 Billion deal for masks with BYD, a Chinese electric bus maker that is now manufacturing N95 masks.

The California Public Records Act is a valuable tool for obtaining government records and holding government officials accountable. It is a large part of my law practice. I had the honor of assisting Katy Grimes in obtaining records on the Governor's billion dollar contract with auto maker BYD for PPE masks. Katy was very kind to mention me in her article about this.

California recently made a $1 billion purchase for millions of surgical face masks from a new and unvetted company. You may have heard about it.

Will Swaim is the President of the California Policy Center - I am its General Counsel. Will Swaim issued an article in the Orange County Register about a California Public Records Act case I represented CPC in where we obtained a favorable ruling from the Court. This resulted in disclosure of information about the District's motivation - financial not the best interests of the students. Glad for my client. Sad for the Students of the Anaheim Union High School District.

It’s just a shame that the public’s right to government documents seems to extend only to groups like ours that can afford to exercise it.

As an attorney and member of the Rotary Club of Laguna Niguel, I am looking forward to being their speaker on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Noon. My talk will be about the U.S. Supreme Court's recent case Janus v. AFSCME (regarding government employee unions and mandatory dues payments) and the case's likely affects on California. We meet at Fertello's Italian Family Restaurant ( 31371 Niguel Rd., Laguna Niguel, California 92677). Rotary is a wonderful service organization - come learn about this important case decision and how Rotary is a wonderful vehicle to be of service to our community. "Service above Self" is our motto and you do NOT need to be a Rotary member to attend lunch with us!

Can some government employees sue unions who took their money?

The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Janus case concluded that government employees who are "agency fee payers" no longer have to have part of their paycheck sent to a government employee union. Can those same now former agency fee payers sue the unions to get a refund of their dues that were paid to the union in the past? This article would indicate they have a good claim against those unions.

Surprising fallout from the Supreme Court's decision on agency fees
