Artificial intelligence can be a great tool. The idea that it is getting too good, too fast, and that restrictions are the solution is a sure path to mediocrity, or worse. Innovation is probably our country's greatest export. The needs to learn, adapt, and excel are no different in the law.

The speed with which artificial intelligence has advanced in only a matter of months has inspired Congress with a rare bipartisan zeal to keep the innovations of Silicon Valley from outpacing Washington.

Over the past 14 years, the crypto space has grown tremendously. Over a trillion dollars of value has been created seemingly out of this air. An unfortunate outcome has been the creation of an environment allowing for the victimization of individuals who have sought to participate in that space. Volume is not a pure indicator of legitimacy. In today’s article we see an outfit that made off with more than a billion dollars… at least for now.

If you think hiring a professional is expensive, see what happens when you don’t hire one.

While the process of becoming a lawyer may be getting easier with relaxed test scores and fewer requirements, across the board there still tend to be basic requirements such as graduating law school or completing an apprenticeship, and the passage of the bar, all of which require rigorous study. To some these requirements seem to go overboard, but the concept is that the public needs to be protected with the benefit of competent representation. The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) is opening new worlds, but until such technology can be vetted and safeguards for the public can be implemented, Bower PLLC clients will continue to enjoy quality legal representation from humans who are formally trained and properly licensed in the practice of law. We'll keep ourselves aware of emerging technology, and employ it when beneficial to our clients, while maintaining the continued person to person interaction in our attorney-client relationships.

A 'robot' that was set to make history for advising the first defendant with artificial intelligence has now been accused of 'masquerading as a licensed practitioner' in a lawsuit filed by Edelson.

As a firm that regularly represents victims of companies that employ deceptive trade practices, this suit looks like one for the birds.

It’s hard to imagine what harm has come to any of the proposed class members who might have unknowingly eaten fried chicken breast instead of fried chicken wing.

The lawsuit says the label "boneless wings" is misleading because it implies that the product is a chicken wing that "has simply been deboned."

The decision to go settle or go to trial can be difficult for all parties. In this case, the state of California spent an extra year in litigation and was rewarded for their efforts with a $300+ million judgment that more than doubled the collective settlement of 41 other states (plus D.C.).

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday let stand a $302 million judgment against Johnson & Johnson in a lawsuit brought by the state of California accusing the company of concealing the risks of its pelvic mesh products.

Bower PLLC represents people and business that have been harmed by acts and failures to act by others.

When companies fail to address known risks to their customers or the general public they can create great harm and subject themselves to huge liability.

In this case, 7-Eleven’s failure to remedy dangerous conditions about which it had daily notice over a period of 15 years resulted in a 90 million dollar payout. Hopefully this serves as a lesson, encouraging companies to do things within their power to prevent injury.

Cryptocurrencies have been around for more than a decade now. The market for the thousands of coins and tokens is volatile. Various government bodies and agencies have taken inconsistent positions as to how cryptocurrency should be categorized (property, currency, securities, etc.).

What is clear is that some holders have become wealthy extraordinarily quickly, while others have suffered great losses at about the same speed. Bower PLLC represents players in the crypto space falling into each of these categories.

While this new bill (if ultimately made law) is unlikely to end the confusion about the characterization of cryptocurrency, hopefully it will create a mechanism to go after unscrupulous actors in the crypto space. At Bower PLLC, we’ll be happy to have one more tool in the toolbox as we pursue justice against the crooks and fraudsters who try to take advantage of our clients.

Texas Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, a Tarrant County Republican, filed House Bill 1666 last week to prevent the next FTX. The bill would require digital asset trading firms to have enough funding on hand to pay customers when they come asking for their money.

“Welcome to my house!” That one’s word is their bond is the only reason someone should need to live up to contracts and to not commit fraud. In the referenced case Celsius was given 82 million reasons.

The laws in Texas can allow for the recovery of attorney fees for breach and punitive or exemplary damages for fraud. At Bower PLLC we regularly represent victims of fraud and violated contracts. Thankfully the law provides mechanism to make such victims whole… and sometimes much more.
