NO VALID ID? Can a Texas Notary Still Help?
There are many reasons a signer may not have a current physical ID. An ID may be lost, stolen, expired, or misplaced. A signer may have applied for a renewal or replacement and still be waiting for the new ID in the mail. Elderly individuals or people with mobility challenges may also have difficulty renewing their identification. Sometimes a client has only a photo or digital image after misplacing the physical ID.
Whatever the reason, identification requirements cannot simply be skipped.
Depending on the circumstances and the notarial act, Texas law may allow another permitted method of establishing identity. A credible witness may be an option when all applicable requirements are met. The notary must be satisfied with the signer’s identity before proceeding.
Don’t wait until the last minute—and don’t take shortcuts. Never use another person’s ID or provide false information to complete a notarization.
