I am seeing an uptick in complaints about solicitors (door-to-door salespersons) who claim that the solar panels they offer are free because of a GOVERNMENT PROGRAM. These are FRAUDULENT sales tactics.

The solicitors often claim that they work for, or are with, the government, but usually have no business cards or other identifying information that they provide. These solicitors also often employ very aggressive sales tactics, refusing to leave despite a lack of interest or rejection from the homeowners. If they get someone to sign something, it is usually an electronic signature on a tablet (i.e. iPad) or smartphone that prevents the homeowner from actually reviewing the documents being signed. Of course, the true nature of the documents is always misrepresented and often presented as a "credit check" or some other type of "qualifying" document. ALL OF THESE PRACTICES ARE DESIGNED TO CONCEAL THE FRAUD.

Do not be a victim. Reject their sales pitch, explain they are trespassing if they refuse to leave, and threaten to call law enforcement if necessary. It is also a good idea to take a picture of the solicitors for your records and to post online if necessary.

If you have elderly neighbors, keep an eye out for them. They are particularly vulnerable to these types of sales tactics.

While GM is facing potentially hundreds of thousands of Lemon Law claim for their faulty transmissions, their lobbyists and sponsored politicians used deceptive and undemocratic methods to get a bill to Gov. Newsom's desk that would prevent consumers from making Lemon Law claims based on GM's bad transmissions.

There is still time to contact Gov. Newsom's office to urge him to veto the bill, AB 1755.

When lawmakers gut and amend, they remove the original language in a bill (gut it) and then stuff in new language (amend it).
