The time bomb that has slowly been simmering in the courts has exploded. Not only does this kill federal subsidies, but it also vitiates the employer mandate in states that do not operate an exchange (if there are no subsidies for the feds to pay there are no grounds to penalize employers). However, the doom and gloom prognosticators and triumphant braggarts should both simmer down until the inevitable June 2015 SCOTUS ruling.

A top federal appeals court threw out its IRS regulation that implements key Obamacare health insurance subsidies.

I began my employment at Keystone Mutual yesterday, but The Rejent Firm will still be open for business in 2014, so please think of me should any legal needs arise this year!

I always appreciate the opportunity to speak to the agents and brokers of the St. Louis Assoc of Health Underwriters. Great discussion with those on the front lines!

What impact will President Obama's plan to "suggest" that insurers continue to sell plans that were canceled due to ACA regulations have on the health insurance market and the exchanges? This should be a pretty interesting few weeks, to say the least!

Enjoyed participating in a roundtable discussion of latest and greatest of the ACA with the Creve Coeur Chamber today. Great questions, and luckily smart people (present company excluded) to answer them.

I'm excited to join the discussion on Stay Tuned STL on Channel 9 again this Thursday at 9 to discuss the rollout of the ACA exchanges. It should be quite a lively discussion.

*Taking off my "neutral interpreter" hat* for just a moment: The lengths bureaucrats are going in regulations and guidance to ensure that small businesses have no option BUT to drop coverage (and thus cause more people to enter the exchanges or take government-sponsored care) is staggering and extremely frightening. The issues are very technical, which is why they are certain they can (and likely will) get away with it. *Putting hat back on*

Enjoyed presenting to a bright group of accountants, HR pros, lawyers and business owners on the coming changes and plan designed. But man, talking for over two hours straight kills your voice!

I will be on Stay Tuned on Channel 9 tomorrow night at 9 discussing the impact of the ACA on young adults. I hope you can watch and join in the discussion!

Guided by host Casey Nolen the conversation each week focuses on one topic, and participants contribute using a full range of technologies, from television to Twitter, Facebook and Google+Hangouts.

I am happy to announce that my book, The Smart Business Guide to Health Care Reform, is now available on Amazon.com for Kindle users. It should be available for Nook users next week, and hopefully in the Apple bookstore, as well. So if you want to learn about the changes impacting businesses (and, by extension, everyone else), please read it. I think you will find it informative and entertaining.

Even with the delay of the Employer Mandate, Health Care Reform is radically changing the health insurance environment for employers. The Smart Business Guide to Health Care Reform is your plain-language, yet detail-rich, ticket to understanding the impact of the law on employers (and everyone el...

For those scoring at home, the cost of "affordable" coverage for a family in 2014 is now the max deductible ($4000) + medical out of pocket max ($6350) + pharmacy out of pocket max ($6350), so $16,700, BEFORE you even consider premiums (which need to be less than 9.5% of the employee's income for individual, not family, coverage). Think about this while also considering there is no employer reporting of coverage and an "honor system" for premium support tax credits.

The Obama administration has put off another provision — on deductibles and co-payments — until 2015.

Fallout from Employer Mandate delay. Exchanges to rely on "honor system" to determine eligibility for tax credits & subsidies. What could possibly go wrong?

If you thought the delay in the employer mandate was bad news for Obamacare, just wait. On Friday, Sarah Kliff and Sandhya Somashekhar of the Washington Post discovered that the Obama administration had buried in the Federal Register the announcement that the government won’t be able to verify wheth...
