The real estate market has certainly shifted in the past few weeks. While homes under 400K, low and no bank waterfront homes and “affordable” view homes walking distance to our villages are still in high demand, many buyers are hesitant because of interest rate hikes and portfolio losses. A few years back we were giddy that interest rates were at historic lows of 6 percent. Luckily Whidbey Island is still a place people yearn to retire to, telecommute from, enjoy 2nd homes on that are just a quick hop from Seattle, Bellevue and the I-5 corridor. In Coupeville we are blessed with the rain shadow, far less rain, more sunshine. We have a flourishing art community, a great small farm community growing and raising our food. We have a tradition of volunteer service, too. We have County offices and a hospital, solid and well-supported schools, and gorgeous parks. So count me in for optimism and pride in our beautiful Island!

How lucky the Coupeville Historic Waterfront Association has been to have Vickie Chambers as Executive Director for so many years! She and our Main Street program grew together over the years, and she became the smiling face of CHWA. So many fun events, and her final MusselFest now celebrated, she will be really retired. Of course we’ll still see her at Coupe’s Last Stand, Aqua and around the community she loves and has devoted herself to for so many years. Stay tuned for news of a retirement celebration, now that hugs and gatherings are in the cards. Let’s all take a moment to send her a thank you for all she gave to make Coupeville shine!
