Let’s play a game of true or false!

What do you think about this statement: you need a great credit score to become a homeowner.

OK, the answer is… false! Well, kind of.

Generally speaking, a of at least 620 will set you up for the best success to secure a loan for a house.

However, it’s still possible to get a loan if you have a lower credit score, but you may have to pay a down payment percentage.

For example, if you have a credit score of 580, you should qualify to secure an FHA (Federal Housing Administration) and a 3.5% down payment.

Keep in mind that while you might secure a loan with a credit score in the 500s, it might be challenging. So ensure you’re keeping best practices to keep that credit score as healthy as you can!

Creating a budget can be one of the most challenging steps in the home-buying process. This page exists to make your experience easier, so here are simple ways to create a budget!

1️⃣ Jot down how much income you make every month.

2️⃣ Note your monthly expenses, and don’t skip out on any! For example, eating and drinking at restaurants, groceries, car payments, cell phone payments, subscription services, etc.

3️⃣ Predict that you’ll spend no more than 28% of your monthly income on a mortgage every month, and determine if that suits how much you have leftover.

4️⃣ Toy around with your budget until you find a sweet spot where you feel like you can still live a comfortable life while paying off your mortgage.

Here are the three ways to get started:

✅ Upgrade your metals first! Manufacturers have likely released more innovative and stronger materials that also look more modern, such as aluminum, stainless steel, and copper.

✅ Update your backsplash. It’s an easy and relatively less expensive way to freshen up your kitchen!

✅ Modernize your countertops. Outdated kitchen countertops usually contain unsightly tile-and-grout, but the countertops of today are even stronger, more beautiful, and easier to take care of. (Like natural stones!)
