“Thy Kingdom come,” To pray those words is an eviction notice to your ego. It’s declaring, “My life is no longer my property. It’s His claimed space.”
Think about a lion’s territory in the wild. A lion doesn’t waste energy arguing over every square foot - his sheer presence establishes his domain. Other predators back off simply because of who occupies the territory. Everything around him adjusts to his authority.
When Christ is King, your life stops being neutral territory. Your ambitions come under His rule, your relationships come under His rule. Your habits, private thoughts, future plans, wounds, fears, and desires… all become ground under His authority.
This can feel threatening at first. Our ego naturally wants control. We want Jesus as Savior, but resist Him as King. We want His peace without His rule, His protection without His commands, and His promises without His authority. But the Kingdom of God only arrives through surrender. “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me…” - Matthew 16:24–25
“Thy Kingdom come” means something has to leave. Pride. Control. Self-rule. Where the King reigns, everything else has to adjust. The throne was never meant for you.
