You can say the same thing in more than one way. If you come off as too aggressive (i.e. "there's no way I'm giving you this") the other side may stay entrenched in their positions. Try, instead, making the same point in another tone (i.e. "I'm happy to offer this or that"). Watch how it changes your ability to negotiate yourself into a better situation.

As long as you are negotiating out of court, you leave open at least a theoretical possibility of any creative solution possible. Once you file a lawsuit, you will have a chance to be heard but you do run the risk that they will file a countersuit.

The good thing about negotiating a custody and child support agreement is that many of the terms are subjective. One parent may prefer Christmas with the kids while another parent prefers having everyone come home for their big 4th of July BBQ. Look for win-win arrangements like that. It will make your new routine much more enjoyable than arguing for the sake of arguing.
