Permanent alimony was eliminated in Florida in 2023… but that does NOT mean existing permanent alimony automatically ends.

If your alimony order was entered before the law changed, the court still requires a substantial change in circumstances to modify or terminate it.

The change in the statute alone is typically not enough.

Florida courts still look at:
• Need
• Ability to pay
• Financial changes since the original order

Every case is fact specific, which is why understanding how the law applies to your situation is so important.

If you have questions about alimony modifications in Florida, speaking with an experienced family law attorney can help you understand your options.

The “right of first refusal” sounds great in theory… until you realize it can create even more conflict between co-parents.

For anyone unfamiliar, it generally means that if one parent cannot be with the child during their timesharing, they must first offer that time to the other parent before using another caregiver.

The issue is that in highly contested cases, this often creates more communication, more monitoring, and more opportunities for arguments.

A lot of family law decisions come down to this question:
Is this actually helping the child, or is it increasing conflict between the parents?
Every family dynamic is different, but sometimes reducing unnecessary friction is the healthier long-term solution.

A consultation is not a commitment to divorce.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see is people thinking that calling a divorce lawyer means they’ve officially decided to file. That’s not true at all.

Sometimes a consultation gives people clarity about what divorce would actually look like financially and legally. Sometimes it helps people understand timing better. Sometimes it confirms their instincts. And sometimes… people leave realizing divorce may not even be the best option for their situation.

Every family dynamic is different, especially in long-term marriages.
The goal of a consultation is information. Understanding your options. Understanding Florida law. Understanding the potential consequences before making major decisions.

You may learn something you never even knew was possible.

Your name isn’t on the account? It still might be yours.

In Florida, what matters is when the asset was acquired, not whose name is on it. And during a divorce, hidden assets have a way of coming to light.
Financial control ≠ ownership.
