In occasione della XXVI Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo, il Consolato Generale d’Italia a Miami promuove un programma di iniziative culturali e didattiche nelle scuole della circoscrizione consolare, dedicato al tema “Lingua geniale: ideare, progettare, creare con l’italiano”.

Dal rap d’autore di Murubutu alla biologia marina con Alberto Luca Recchi, il calendario comprende laboratori di italiano, proiezioni cinematografiche all’Università di Miami, incontri con scienziati e imprenditori e un concorso creativo dedicato agli studenti.

Le iniziative si svolgono sotto l’Alto Patronato del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana.

To mark the 26th Italian Language Week in the World, the Consulate General of Italy in Miami is promoting a program of cultural and educational initiatives in schools throughout its consular district, inspired by this year’s theme: “A Language of Genius: Imagining, Designing, and Creating in Italian.”

From Murubutu’s literary rap to marine biology with Alberto Luca Recchi, the program includes Italian language workshops, film screenings at the University of Miami, meetings with scientists and entrepreneurs, and a creative competition for students.

The initiatives are held under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

As Jackson County continues recovery efforts following Hurricane Isaias, Jackson County Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Health in Jackson County are actively working together to assist residents with critical medical needs.

⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OXYGEN-DEPENDENT RESIDENTS:
If you or someone you know relies on supplemental oxygen and is currently without electricity or running low on their backup oxygen supply, please contact the Jackson County Citizens Information Line so emergency personnel can help coordinate assistance.

Jackson County Emergency Management is scheduled to conclude its current Emergency Operations Center activation at 4:00 p.m. today. Residents with unmet oxygen-related needs are strongly encouraged to reach out before that time so arrangements can be coordinated.

If you have a family member, friend, or neighbor who depends on oxygen, especially someone still experiencing a power outage, please check on them and make sure they have the assistance they need.

🚨 PRESS RELEASE | Jackson County Declares Local State of Emergency Ahead of Hurricane Isaias

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners declared a Local State of Emergency during a special meeting Thursday, October 8, as our community prepares for potential impacts from Hurricane Isaias.

This proactive declaration allows the County to mobilize resources, coordinate emergency operations, and respond more efficiently as conditions change.

🌀 LATEST STORM OUTLOOK (10 a.m. CT, Oct. 8)

Jackson County is under a Tropical Storm Warning. Hurricane Isaias is currently a Category 1 hurricane and could strengthen before making landfall along the far western Florida Panhandle late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

Primary concerns Friday into Saturday:
🌧️ Heavy rainfall and flooding, with 5–10 inches possible across portions of the Panhandle and isolated totals up to 15 inches.
💨 Damaging winds, downed trees, and power outages.
🌪️ Severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes.

🚨 LOCAL PREPARATIONS
• The Emergency Operations Center will activate at Level 2 Friday afternoon.
• General population shelters are not anticipated to open at this time. Conditions will continue to be evaluated.
• Sand is available across from the EOC at 2819 Panhandle Road, Marianna. Bring your own bags and shovels.

• County BOCC offices: OPEN
• Jackson County schools: CLOSED
• Jackson County Courthouse: CLOSED
• Chipola College: CLOSED
• Jackson Hospital clinics: OPEN

⚠️ PLEASE COMPLETE STORM PREPARATIONS TODAY. Secure outdoor items, charge devices, gather emergency supplies, and check on neighbors who may need assistance.

🇺🇸 This Saturday, October 10, the 2026 edition of Hitweek (organized by FIMI - Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana and Italian Trade Agency Los Angeles) comes to a grand finale, with La NIÑA taking the stage at the Miami Beach Bandshell.

🎤 La Niña, the stage name of Carola Moccia, is a Neapolitan singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who brings the musical tradition of her hometown into the present, blending Neapolitan dialect, alternative R&B, and electronic sounds.

From the album Vanitas to Furèsta, winner of the 2025 Targa Tenco for Best Album in Dialect, her music explores identity, roots, and Neapolitan culture through a contemporary and deeply personal language.
