God bless America? Created by pioneers who cast their lot with each other, arm in arm they dared to be different. Untried and filled with danger, they set-out to blaze a new path. They dared to dream a great dream. They dreamed of a land where men and women were free and equal.
On occasion, fate’s tempest threatened to extinguish the dream and awaken the dreamers. The currents of Civil striff, inequities, dangers from outside and from within, threatened to extinguish the light. But in its darkest hour brave men and women stood and were counted. They kept the flame alive.
They stood strong during the night’s darkness though not unshaken. Those who made it to Dawn’s early light held their heads high, many did pay with their last once of courage: “Freedom is not free.”
For my generation, the “Great Generation,” the “Boomers” this is the moment. It is our solem duty to pass the tourch. Can we stand the tempest? Will we greet Dawn with our heads held high? Or, will we wither and let the tourch slip away?
- Let’s do this! God bless America!
