In 2023, Maryland law makers established a law requiring that Register of Wills accept electronic filings. Years later, we are still filing probate documents like it’s 1777. We need a Register committed to moving forward and adopting technology to reduce costs and save time. I hope you will vote for and support Ajile Brown for Register of Wills for HowardCounty.

Maryland’s new “Glock” law is set to take effect on January 1, 2027. While the law prevents the sale or transfer of hand guns with a cruciform trigger bar, it does not prohibit a direct inheritance of these fi****ms.

Our legislators have recessed for the year so it’s time to look ahead to new rules for estates, trusts, and probate.

House Bill 174 passed and has been approved by the Governor allowing transfer on death designations for certain marine vessels and vehicles.

House Bill 738 allowing for transfer on death deeds for real property in Maryland has also passed.

Stay tuned for a full report of estate planning and probate laws going into effect this year.
