Our legislators have recessed for the year so it’s time to look ahead to new rules for estates, trusts, and probate.

House Bill 174 passed and has been approved by the Governor allowing transfer on death designations for certain marine vessels and vehicles.

House Bill 738 allowing for transfer on death deeds for real property in Maryland has also passed.

Stay tuned for a full report of estate planning and probate laws going into effect this year.

Mark your calendars Howard County, as the County's Bureau of Environmental Services is set to host its first County-sponsored document shredding event of 2026 on Saturday, April 11th. Set to take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (OR UNTIL THE TRUCKS ARE FULL) in Howard Community College's Lot G at 10650 Hickory Ridge Road in Columbia, county residents can bring up to three bags or boxes of paper documents to shredded onsite. By "paper documents," the Bureau is talking Federal and State tax documents, credit card and other household bills, medical records, pay stubs, mortgage documents, and insurance bills (i.e., documents that include account numbers, passwords, PINs, signatures, Social Security numbers and date of birth).
