Our commitment to clients extends beyond the work we do—it also shows in how we engage with and support our communities.

Adrian Carter, a litigation attorney in our Florence office and a member of the South Carolina Bar’s Young Lawyers Division, recently volunteered during Community Law Week, speaking with students at John W. Moore Middle School.

She discussed her path to the legal profession, shared practical insights on decision-making and professional growth, and answered thoughtful questions about her experience in practice.

Opportunities like this reflect the importance of investing in future leaders and strengthening connections within our communities. We are proud of Adrian’s commitment to the practice of law and to our community.

Last week, we celebrated Administrative Professionals Day across several days and at all seven of our offices. In our North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia offices we recognized the people who keep everything running behind the scenes, for our attorneys and our clients.

Each office gathered in person to celebrate, and our administrative professionals were gifted baskets of fresh-picked strawberries from a local farm as well as received other tokens of appreciation. Attorneys also shared their gratitude, reflecting on the many ways these team members support our clients and our practice every day.

Their work often happens behind the scenes, but its impact is felt everywhere.

Thank you for all that you do.

Congratulations Catherine Kennedy on being featured by Richland County Government as part of their Women's History Month series.

We’re proud to have Cathy as part of our firm and grateful for the impact she continues to make in our community. She exemplifies what it means to provide client service, the right way and to exceed expectations.

PROBATE PIONEER. For our last profile of Women’s History Month, we highlight Columbia native Catherine H. Kennedy. Before she was elected Richland County’s first female probate judge, Kennedy started her career as a high school French teacher, eventually graduating from law school at the University of South Carolina in 1981. She later became the state's first female attorney to serve as a probate judge.

Kennedy would serve as probate judge from 1987 to 1999, leading the charge for judges in applying the state’s new Probate Code when it changed dramatically in 1987. During her tenure, Kennedy helped develop a pilot mediation program for probate matters and a rule for permanent mediation in probate court. After leaving office in 1999, Kennedy went into private practice.

For her decades of work in probate, estate and trust law, Kennedy has received numerous accolades. These include the 2020 Platinum Compleat Lawyer Award from her alma mater, the USC Joseph F. Rice School of Law, as well as the designation of SC Super Lawyer in Estate and Trust Litigation.
