One of the most prestigious and respected academic journals in the country has finally supported what we’ve already known: talcum powder isn’t safe. And one of the main reasons talc producers and suppliers avoided regulation and FDA intervention is because in 1977, Johnson & Johnson was secretly involved in writing the studies deciding the safety of talc.

Talcum powder has never been safe to use, yet it has been used as an ingredient in thousands of cosmetic products across the United States for decades. Baby powder, makeup, and odor reducing powders alike.

Last week, The Lancet, one of the oldest and most prestigious academic journals, made a very rare decision. They retracted their 1977 article suggesting cosmetic talc is safe.

Why? Conveniently, one of the authors was a Johnson & Johnson paid consultant. He was feeding information from the article to Johnson & Johnson, whose feedback was later included in the article.

Tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people have suffered because Johnson & Johnson and other talc retailers knowingly put a dangerous product on the shelf. Almost fifty years later, the truth continues to prevail.

An Orangeburg County jury heard two weeks of testimony, reviewed pages and pages of evidence, and rightfully delivered justice to our clients. The NCAA has had knowledge of concussions and the permanent brain damage repetitive head trauma can cause, and they knew it as early as the 1930s. But the NCAA did nothing to protect their student athletes from those dangers. Our client and many like him suffer permanently because of it.

The trial team of David Langfitt, Bakari Sellers, and our very own John Kassel worked diligently for many years to secure justice and hold the NCAA accountable. But no amount of money can reverse the damage caused to this beloved family.

“What does justice look like to you?” Leveling the playing field. Holding people and corporations accountable when they’ve harmed someone. At Kassel McVey we fight for our clients, no matter how big the adversary, in the pursuit of fairness and accountability.
