At times, we make mistakes and need to own up to them. In our youth, those decisions are impulsive and can have potentially dire long-term consequences. We may decide things in a panic where rationale goes out the window. Also, we may want to live a certain lifestyle that ultimately is not productive and runs afoul of the law.

I am proud of my (longtime 😬) client who has made some of those impulsive mistakes. However, he has turned his life around. Having a child centers you and choosing to step into manhood results in positive consequences.

Today, along with the State of South Carolina, we closed that chapter and opened a new one with him being a free man while addressing other challenges for a short probationary period.*

I am grateful to his family for trusting me over the years BUT my hope is that no future representation involves the criminal justice system. I am betting on him as he bets on himself.

*All cases are different. So are the results.

I am grateful that I get to help people in need as a lawyer.

I am grateful that I was available last night when the family called.

I am grateful that, due to modern technology, I could represent my two clients, by telephone at their bond hearings this morning.

I am grateful that Spirit would not let me be comfortable "dialing it in."

I am grateful to my wife, Tammy Shadd ,giving her full support for me to attend in person on this Day of Gratitude.

I am grateful to their families and employers attending in support of my clients.

I am grateful to a fair judge exercising sound judgment.

I am grateful my clients will be home later today of all days.

I am grateful for being allowed to zealously advocate especially in times of high stress and unease.
