There is an old adage that "All money isn't good money." I heard an attorney say, "I practice Green Law. If you have the green, I'll take the case."🤣 They likely meant it as a joke but accepting a case based solely on the client's ability to pay can turn into a nightmare.
Four (4) top reasons that I have declined to represent a potential client who had the ability to pay:
1. They have hired and relieved multiple attorneys in the same legal matter for which they now seek my representation.
2. They are disrespectful to me or my office staff.
3. They ask me to take action that would violate the law or ethics.
4. They want me to take legal action based on advice they received from google.

Some things about marriage and divorce . . .
1. Many think they can keep you in a marriage by refusing to consent to a divorce. You can obtain a divorce without the consent of your spouse.
2. Living together does not create a common law marriage. Only seven (7) states (and Washington, DC) recognize common law marriages. In South Carolina, you can't created a common law marriage after July 24, 2019.

This is only the third month of the year and I have done several Premarital Agreements (Prenups) for clients. Would you sign a Premarital Agreement if your future spouse asked you to? If a future spouse refused your request to sign would you cancel the wedding?

Marriage is not just a piece of paper. It's a piece of paper that gives you legal rights. It gives you rights to your spouse's assets (property, bank accounts, social security, military benefits, etc.) and it allows you to make your spouse's healthcare decisions. These rights exist even if your spouse has been living with a side piece for 20 years. So when Richard "Dimples" Fields said "She's Got Papers" you'd better respect that. Call my office if you've got papers.

Are you a woman who took your husband's last name and are now getting divorced? Always request to resume use of your maiden name. If you don't make that request, and subsequently change your mind, you will have to file a new action to get a name change. Name changes are not automatic. You have to take additional steps for the name change to occur.

Congratulations to my Intern Cadence Leaks. She will be graduating from Allen University this month and returning to Texas. She was a great Intern this semester and I know she will do great things wherever she goes.
