The Old Vaucluse Road bridge over I-20 has officially reopened to traffic! 👏

Crews have been working tirelessly to replace the bridge after being damaged in June 2025. Not only has the bridge been rebuilt, it’s been improved to serve this Aiken County community better than before. 🤝

If you drive past this bridge on I-20, make sure to slow down for the SCDOT contractors who are still working in the area!

This ride through Orangeburg and Calhoun counties is about to be a lot smoother. 😎

SCDOT is finishing up a project to repave more than six miles of US 21, starting near Cartwright Road at the Calhoun County line. The repaving is on track to be completed by September.

⚠️ Look out for signage along the road and slow down through the work zone to make sure crews can stay safe and construction can wrap up on schedule! ⚠️

If you’re traveling through Newberry, Laurens, or Anderson counties, you may notice crews hard at work along I-26 and I-85. 🚧Crews are working overnight to install a new surface, improving safety and ride quality for drivers.

If you see crews working, please slow down and give them enough space to do their jobs. The projects in Laurens and Anderson counties are expected to wrap up this fall, while work in Newberry County is anticipated to be completed later this summer.

🚧 SCDOT has recently resurfaced Pendergrass Boulevard in the Great Falls area of Chester County. The work also included shoulder widening along the route. It's paving season, so expect to see more paving work as we get into the summer months.

As always, when you approach a work zone, slow down and drive safely. 🛣️

SCDOT is wrapping up much-needed safety improvements along US 321 in Hampton County!

Between Estill and the Jasper County line, 10 miles of the highway are being repaved as part of our Rural Road Safety Program. The shoulders of the road have also been widened and rumble strips have been added to alert drivers when they go off road. ⚠️

This project is part of our initiative to improve 1,300 miles of rural roads across the state by 2027. ✅

Drivers: Give cyclists plenty of space.
Cyclists: Stay visible, follow traffic laws, and always wear a helmet.

Bordering Fort Jackson in the Midlands, the 4.5-mile-long Leesburg Road Widening Project is designed to increase capacity and safety for both motorists and pedestrians.

Nearly 25,000 vehicles travel on Leesburg Road, near Garner’s Ferry Road, every day. This project is upgrading the route to 4 travel lanes, with a center paved median, to keep up with this high traffic demand.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Here’s a close-up look of one of the ways SCDOT preserves the environment during and after construction! ♻️

If you ever notice layers of straw on the side of the road while driving by a project, it’s part of a process called seeding, which helps rebuild grass after construction, protects newly built roads from both wind and water damage, and keeps the soil healthy. 🌳✅

The green-colored seed mixture is used to regrow the grass and is sprayed on the shoulder of the road. Any excess that falls on the asphalt is swept off the roads before they are reopened to traffic. 🚧

This is a ladder crosswalk! In areas with heavier pedestrian traffic, these added high-visibility markings help guide pedestrians safely across the road. They also provide a visual alert for drivers to slow down, stay aware, and watch for people crossing.
