The renovations at our future location at 1004 Calhoun Street, Columbia, SC are progressing very well. This home was built over 100 years ago and is in great shape for its age. I found ledgers and other documents dated as early as 1923. I cannot wait to explore the rich history of this building.

Here are a couple of tips when choosing an attorney to represent you in your automobile accident and/or your work injury and/or your slip in fall and/or dog bite case: 1) Never hire a lawyer that you never meet or talk to after the firm has been retained; 2) Never hire an attorney if he/she tells you that you are going to get your money fast ... you may get a settlement fast, but not a good settlement because insurance companies are not in the business of paying out large settlements fast; and 3) Never hire an attorney or a firm that has either never tried a case or do not try many cases! Insurance companies maintain a database of information not only about the value of cases in every county, but insurance companies also know which attorneys/law firms will not litigate a case, even good cases ... those clients typically get lower settlements.

It appears that today's Supreme Court decision in the New York State Rifle case has effectively ended any further prosecutions of Unlawful Carrying of Pistol charges here in SC. I don't see how such cases can now be prosecuted when this case appears to hold that citizens have the right to bear arms in public and private without any type of permit. It will be interesting to see what happens next. Is it retroactive? I expect it will create massive issues for law enforcement ... safety, probable cause/reasonable suspicion to stop, talk, investigate, search, or seize. I have been a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney my entire legal career, so I can say from experience that I expect the wild wild west.

Excited about the future home of The Lake Law Firm … 1004 Calhoun Street, Columbia, South Carolina. A few pictures of the before but the work is coming along and we hope to be at our new location some time in July 2022. We will keep you posted on the transformation of this building that dates back to 1920.
