This week, we’re highlighting Sunni Smith, one of the dedicated members of the team at Strom Law Firm.

Originally from Mystic, Connecticut, Sunni brings more than 22 years of experience as a personal injury paralegal. After relocating to South Carolina in 2022, she joined the firm in 2023 and has continued to bring compassion, experience, and attention to detail to every case she works on.

Outside of the office, Sunni enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling back to Connecticut to visit family and friends.

OpenAI sued over ChatGPT’s alleged role in guiding FSU shooter!

Strom Law Firm's National Civil Rights Attorney Bakari Sellers appeared infront of the federal courthouse in Tallahassee to announce a federal lawsuit against OpenAI following the 2025 Florida State University shooting, alleging that the accused gunman used ChatGPT extensively while planning the attack. The lawsuit was filed by the family of victim Tiru Chabba, a South Carolina father of two who was killed during the tragedy.

Bakari Sellers, Amy Willbanks of the Strom Law Firm, Gregorio Francis and J Robert Bell III of Osborne, Franics, and Pettis, and Jim Bannister of Bannister Wyatt and Stalvey are representing the Chabba family.

“Ikner had multiple lengthy conversations with ChatGPT about his interests in Hi**er, N***s, fascism, national socialism, Christian nationalism and worse. They talked about multiple mass shootings and they planned this shooting together,” Bakari Sellers, who is representing Chabba's widow, said. “Not once did anyone flag that as concerning. No one called the police or a psychiatrist or even Ikner’s family because, to do so, would violate OpenAI’s business model.”

A flyer claiming to be from the South Carolina Circuit Court, Fifth Judicial Circuit, is currently circulating. It instructs recipients to send money via a QR code. This flyer is NOT affiliated with our office — it is a scam.

Please note that our office does not handle traffic court; we prosecute criminal cases in general sessions court.

We would never ask a defendant or community member to send money to our office via a QR code.

There is no hearing at the Richland County Judicial Center at 9:00 a.m. on April 21.

We urge you to disregard this flyer and share this message to help prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
