Finding Our Edge: Why It Matters for Lawyers, Leaders, and Humans
Every lawyer and legal professional knows what it feels like to stand at the edge. The edge of trial prep at 2 a.m. The edge of risk when you take a case no one else wants. The edge of burnout when your phone won’t stop buzzing.
But that edge isn’t where we break — it’s where we grow.
Think about delivering closing arguments when everything is on the line. Or paddling into a wave that looks just a little too big. Or running a narrow ridgeline trail where every step demands absolute focus. Those are edges — moments where fear and growth intersect. It's that growth mindset where we push ourselves to transform our minds.
Finding our edge is about deliberately stepping into those places, not to prove ourselves to others, but to sharpen resilience, emotional intelligence, and clarity.
For lawyers, that means:
• As business owners → Edges sharpen strategy. They force us to see the difference between working harder and working smarter.
• As advocates → Edges deepen empathy. They remind us that our clients live on the edge every day.
• As human beings → Edges create presence. They strip away distraction and show us what matters most.
This is what Lessons from the Edge is about: raw truths from the trenches, offered weekly, so we don’t have to face those edges alone.
The first lesson drops today: Vision Over Hustle — because hustle might get you moving, but vision keeps you on course. If you have hustle without vision then you're likely going really fast...in circles.
Hope that helps, and hope to see you at the edge.
