We are so proud of our intern, Avery, as she heads to University of Oklahoma this Fall.

Avery has managed social media for Trimble Law Office this year, and it has been so rewarding watching her grow in confidence and creativity. When she first started, she didn’t even have a Facebook account, but she learned incredibly quickly and jumped right in.

She may have been a little quiet in the beginning, but this senior year we truly watched her blossom. Her ideas, dedication, and willingness to learn made a real impact on our team and online presence.

Watching young people grow into themselves is one of the most rewarding parts of mentorship, and we are incredibly proud of the person Avery is becoming.

We cannot wait to see all she accomplishes at OU and beyond.

Congratulations, Avery!

We are so proud of our intern, Maeen, for earning a full ride scholarship to Princeton University where she plans to study law.

It has been such a joy having her at Trimble Law Office this year and watching her creativity, intelligence, and work ethic shine through everything she touches. From PowerPoint presentation design to blog articles and marketing projects, she has brought fresh ideas and talent to our team.

Personally, I, Breanna, have loved all of our conversations throughout the year, whether brainstorming creative ideas for the children’s book I am self-publishing or eagerly waiting alongside her to hear which colleges she would be accepted into. Watching this next chapter unfold for her has been really special.

There is no doubt she has an incredibly bright future ahead, and we cannot wait to see all she accomplishes.

Congratulations, Maeen. We are cheering you on every step of the way.

Many small business owners assume estate planning is only something wealthy families or retirees need to think about. In reality, your business may be one of the most important assets you own.

Without a proper estate plan, something unexpected could create confusion, delays, financial hardship, or major disruption for your family, employees, or business partners.

We recently shared a new article discussing why estate planning matters for business owners, even small ones.

▪️What happens to your business if something happens to you?
▪️Who would have authority to step in?
▪️Could your family access accounts or continue operations?
▪️Would your business end up tied up in probate?

These are important conversations worth having before a crisis occurs.

Jim and I had the honor of attending the CTE scholarship breakfast this morning. It was very uplifting to see these gifted, graduating seniors being recognized. I’m sure I will brag more later on our two interns from this year but for now let me just share the pictures from today.

Millions of dollars go unclaimed every year.

It happens more often than people think.

Accounts are left behind with:

• No beneficiary listed
• Outdated contact information
• No one aware they exist

Eventually, those assets can be turned over to the state as unclaimed property.

Families are left with:

• No access
• No awareness
• No clear path to recover funds

Estate planning is not just about distributing assets.
It is about making sure they are actually found.

• Organized records
• Updated beneficiaries
• Clear documentation

Because what is not known… cannot be claimed.

A single estate dispute that lasted over a decade.

Anna Nicole Smith was involved in one of the most complex estate battles in recent history.

After her husband passed, she claimed a share of his estate.
The case moved through:

• State courts
• Federal courts
• The U.S. Supreme Court

The legal issue centered on jurisdiction and authority.

The result:

• Years of litigation
• Conflicting court decisions
• Massive legal costs

Her case became known as
Marshall v. Marshall

The takeaway is simple.

When things are unclear, disputes escalate.
And once they reach court, they can last years.

Clear planning is not just about distribution.
It is about preventing conflict entirely.

Can the government decide what happens to your property after you pass?

In Hodel v. Irving, the Supreme Court looked at a law that prevented certain inherited land interests from passing to heirs.

Instead, the property would revert back to the tribe.

The issue:

• Owners were losing the right to pass property to their family
• No compensation was provided
• It removed a core property right

The Court held:

• The right to transfer property at death is a fundamental property right
• Taking that away can violate the Constitution

Why this matters in estate planning:

Your ability to decide who receives your assets is not just personal.
It is legally protected.

But if you do not make those decisions yourself,
the law will step in and do it for you.
