As parents, we spend 18 years preparing our kids for adulthood. Then one day, we load up a dorm room and send them off.
One thing many families don't realize is that once a child turns 18, parents can lose the ability to access medical information or assist with certain financial matters during an emergency.
That's why I just published a new blog post about the essential legal documents every college student should have before leaving home.
I've been wondering if there might be interest in a simple "College Bound" event for local families. Something practical and educational where parents and students could learn about Medical Powers of Attorney, HIPAA Authorizations, and other important documents before move-in day, and leave the event with completed & notarized new documents.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Is that something you or someone you know would find helpful?
