In an effort to reduce & tend to the current unemployment rate, Australia is significantly changing the eligibility guidelines for the sponsored work subclass 457 visas (soon to be replaced by the TSS visa), also affecting government sponsored subclasses 190/489. As of 19 April 2017, occupation lists have been overhauled & replaced to eliminate 216 occupations from the current shortage lists. Among other tightened requirements, are visa validity periods of 2-4yrs, minimum years of work experience, English language, and limited work visa renewals. New occupation lists are effective immediately, and all other changes to be rolled out between now & March 2018. Significant changes to New Zealand's skilled migrant category (SMC) have been announced and effective immediately. As of 12 Oct 2016, the skilled migrant EOI points threshold, has been raised to 160 points from the previous 140; furthermore, there will be no additional selections for applicants under 160 points, even those with a job offer. These changes being implemented, are to manage the high number of migrants coming into New Zealand over the recent years, but this will now of course significantly effect the ability of many skilled workers to migrate to NZ. The Government has announced changes to the New Zealand Residence Programme (NZRP) for the next two years.
