My colleague Assistant District Attorney General Oswalt and I each happened to wear seersucker to Bradley County Criminal Court this morning, so we had to get a picture.

We are always on opposite sides and zealously advocate for our respective positions, but that doesn't mean we can't be collegial as well.

Today I represented two clients in Davidson County Criminal Court in Nashville. I believe this is the furthest west I have ever appeared in court over a nearly 10-year career.

(The building pictured is the Davidson County Courthouse. I took the picture from the sixth floor of the Justice A.A. Birch Building, which is where criminal matters are heard.)

Today I received a very kind Thank You card from the middle school mock trial class that had invited me to portray an expert witness a couple of weeks ago. I am reminded daily of the need for competent lawyering and, in turn, the necessity of training young people with an interest in our legal system.

If I'm really lucky, they'll invite me back next time.

Today was my first Rifle Crusher match put on by at in Old Fort, NC. As promised, Tim kept most of us shooting the entire par time. I ran my Sabre-10 in .308 and it did its part out to 700 yards.

I am pleased to announce that today my long-time law clerk Hannah Keller-Abel graduated from the Duncan School of Law with her Juris Doctor. She will spend the summer studying for the July 2026 bar exam. We expect great things out of her!

Last Saturday I enjoyed participating in a homeschool co-op mock trial where Judge Collins of the Bradley County General Sessions Court presided. I played the role of the prosecution expert witness "Dr. Lee Waldo," a TBI digital forensics expert. The young lady who handled the prosecution's direct examination did a good job getting the important facts out of me, and then the young man who cross-examined me gave me the third-degree (as he should!)

I suspect we will get some decent lawyers out of this class in a few years.

Last Thursday evening my family and I enjoyed the Bradley County Family Court kickoff organized by . My office has a significant juvenile delinquency practice in this court. (On a side note, Magistrate Hayes grills a good hamburger!)

Today, in Bradley County General Sessions Court, I concluded a preliminary hearing that began two weeks ago. (It had been continued until today to allow the government to try to "fix" the 4th Amendment issue I raised shortly after the hearing began.) Despite the State's accusation that I was being "ridiculous" for insisting on the application of the rules of evidence, I successfully argued a 4th Amendment issue as well as multiple elements of the alleged offense. The court dismissed the Class D felony Theft Over $2,500 charge against my client.

If you are facing felony charges in Bradley County, Tennessee, call or text (423) 464-6596 to discuss retaining my firm.
