Governor Mike DeWine announced today the first round of awards under the Ohio Building and Site Revitalization Program, which funds the demolition of blighted properties and associated revitalization activities. Congratulations to our clients who are slated to receive awards under that Program for their development projects. It is exciting to see the funding from these relatively new economic development programs put to good use to better our State.

This program is designed to provide grants for the demolition of commercial and residential buildings and revitalization of surrounding properties.

The Ohio General Assembly and the Governor deserve credit for wisely establishing the Brownfield Remediation Program through the Budget Bill last year. That Program allows lingering environmental issues to be assessed and remedied and those sites to be put to their most productive uses. The Ohio Department of Development has, once again, stepped-up and implemented this new Program well.

Congratulations to our Clients who applied in Round 1 of the Program - all of whom have now received their full awards.

Ohio needs to continue forward-thinking economic development Programs like this to better our communities.

Senate Bill 225 passed the Ohio House today, and the Ohio Senate unanimously concurred on the House amendments.
The Bill now heads to Governor DeWine for signature - with an effective date 90 days later.
When it becomes effective, it will temporarily double the funding for Ohio’s Historic Tax Credit Program and Ohio’s Opportunity Zone Program, and it will bring much-needed enhancements to both of those valuable Programs.
Senator Kirk Schuring deserves a lot of credit for introducing this Bill and for sheparding it through the legislative process, as does NAIOP and the other organizations that advocated for its passage.

The Ohio Senate Finance Committee recently heard proponent testimony in support of SB 225 that would enhance Ohio’s Opportunity Zone Program and Ohio’s Historic Tax Credit Program - and - provide a short term increase in funding for those Programs. Mike Sikora contributed to NAIOP Ohio’s testimony in support of that Bill.
