Florida parents, if you are divorced or getting a divorce and thinking about moving with your minor child, this is one of those situations where doing first and asking later can backfire. Under Florida law, a relocation is generally a move of at least 50 miles for 60 days or more.
If the other parent agrees, great it is best to get the agreement in writing. It should cover consent, the new time-sharing schedule, and transportation arrangements. NOT LEGAL ADVICE.

Losing one's job to outsourcing is agonizing. There might not be replacement employment or comparable employment for the same salary/wage. We have an increasingly global economy. This often leads to alimony and child support modifications and it is because of circumstances beyond anyone's control.

You are making a prenuptial agreement in Florida. You know what a prenup is, but now you have counsel. Your attorney might ask you what you will do with your assets and debts once you are married.

With a prenup in Florida you can make some rules on your own terms. Maybe you want to keep everything separate when you get married. Or maybe you have certain percentages you are willing to divide if you ever get a divorce.

Know your rights, and know what your partner prefers before you take the plunge.

Recently, I had what we call a mandatory meet and confer with an opposing attorney. The call lasted only a short time during which the other counsel screamed their head off at me and demanded to know why lawyers personalize cases. Mirror, meet the person speaking.

Civility is not required in adversarial cases. Perhaps a genuine desire to raise issues, suggest solutions to those issues, and have a discussion about those issues should be.

This is a reminder to all of us that we can control only our own behavior. We cannot compel others to approach situations with good faith intentions or even a tone of voice that suggests something other than raw hostility. We must always maintain professional discipline and avoid being dragged into some tangential disagreement.

Cases are about clients and their best interests. Sometimes disagreements are unresolvable, and court intervention is necessary.

That is why we must choose to be better, more approachable and the very best advocates for those we represent.

You are involved in a divorce or paternity lawsuit in Central Florida. You have been told you have to do something within 10 or 20 or 30 days.

You need to know the RULES. The Florida family law rules of procedure. They are your friend. If you ignore them and violate them you may lose and/or be sanctioned.

Take the time to research the Rules. Follow the rules and help your case.

The Florida Family Law Rules of Procedure exist to keep the spirit of fairness and structure alive in divorce law in Florida. Maybe more people should consider learning the rules and following them.
