🚨 Using the wrong Affidavit of Support right now means an automatic rejection no warning, no grace period!

USCIS just released a new Form I-864 (edition date 08/24/26), mandatory as of August 31:

Credit checks: Sponsors now authorize USCIS to pull financial reports directly from credit bureaus.

Credit freezes: If you have an active freeze, resolve it before filing to avoid delays or RFEs.

All forms updated: This also applies to Forms I-864A and I-864EZ.

Think you know the immigration rules? You might be surprised.

Applying for a Green Card? A major Form I-485 change is coming September 18.

USCIS is introducing a new edition of the Green Card application with updated questions related to the public-charge ground of inadmissibility.

Applicants may face more detailed questions about certain public benefits, household circumstances, and other relevant factors.

Most importantly: starting September 18, USCIS will reject older editions of Form I-485.

Before filing, make sure you’re using the correct edition and understand what information USCIS is asking for.

🚨 U.S. Immigrant Visa Interviews Paused Worldwide

Since early August, U.S. embassies and consulates have been pausing and rescheduling immigrant visa interviews for a global consular officer training, heavily focused on “public charge” screening (how officers assess if an applicant may depend on certain government assistance).

📌 This impacts family based and employment based immigrant visa applicants waiting abroad.

⚠️ Important: A postponed interview does NOT mean your case was denied or canceled.

❓ As of August 26, the State Department hasn’t announced when normal interview scheduling will fully resume.

✅ What to do: Monitor your embassy or consulate’s communications closely for updates.

Up to 200,000 B-1/B-2 visitor visas could be revoked — targeting people who later applied for asylum.

What this means (and doesn’t mean):
❌ Does NOT automatically cancel your asylum case
❌ Does NOT mean automatic deportation
✅ You lose your “visitor” status — but your case can still move forward
✅ Most asylum seekers already in the U.S. aren’t relying on that visa anyway

This is still a massive policy shift — the largest of its kind in U.S. history. If you have a pending asylum case or hold a B-1/B-2 visa, now is the time to get clarity on where you stand.

If you're not a US citizen, air travel right now is not the same as it was a year ago.

TSA is now sharing passenger information with ICE, which is cross-checking travelers against immigration records. While US citizens cannot be denied entry or detained for refusing a search, green card holders and others face real risks. Detentions have been happening- especially for individuals with a criminal history, an extended stay outside the US, a lapsed status, a pending immigration case, or an old removal order.
