Congratulations to Jocelyn Dopson-Rodriguez, a criminal defense attorney at Sammis Law Firm, on recently being appointed to the Florida A&M University (FAMU) Board of Trustees, effective July 11 and ending January 6, 2026.

She was selected by Governor Ron DeSantis. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.

Jocelyn previously served as a student ambassador in the FAMU College of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Science in legal studies from the University of Central Florida and her Juris Doctor from the Florida A&M University College of Law in Orlando.

Congrats to Leslie Sammis on her verdict yesterday in federal court with the Honorable Judge Thomas Barber. The U.S.A. seized $41,805.00 and about $30,000 in gold jewelry. The property was seized in Manatee County during the ex*****on of a search warrant at our client's home in late 2021. The case was stayed while the criminal charges were pending. The two-day trial happened on Monday and Tuesday. The jury checked all 9 boxes, and "No, " meaning the government must return all the property seized. It was a total and complete victory. Even better, the U.S.A. now gets to pay all the Claimant's reasonable attorney fees, which is mandatory under the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000 (CAFRA). The mandatory attorney fees provisions are intended to discourage overzealous Government actions in forfeiture cases. Woohoo!

‼️ NOT GUILTY VERDICT ‼️

Katherine Aranda secured her client a Not Guilty Verdict in a Jury Trial on Tuesday this week in Pasco County in front of the Honorable Judge Grey. After only 20 minutes of deliberations, the jury came back in our favor.

Our client was charged with Luring or Enticing a Child and faced up to a year in the county jail. After diligently working on this case for over a year and dedicating countless hours of preparation for trial, Katherine happily walked out of the courtroom with her client and their family who got to go home together.

To deter DUI, the DUI Wolf Pack will be on the prowl this weekend. Don't drink and drive. Instead, plan ahead for a night out on the town.

What is the DUI Wolf Pack? It operates more like a saturation patrol by flooding an area with more officers and resources. Those officers stop motorists for minor traffic infractions while looking out for drunk and impaired drivers.

To avoid complicated legal challenges in the courtroom, agencies use more saturation patrols and fewer checkpoints.

This weekend, the DUI Wolf Pack begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2023, and runs through 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
