WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CONSUMER PROTECTIONS DISAPPEAR?

If federal agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) are dismantled, what will that mean for everyday consumers? It will likely mean fewer safeguards, weaker regulations, and more power for financial giants.

✅ Will banks have more freedom to impose hidden fees?
✅ Will consumers lose protections against predatory lending?
✅ What can YOU do to safeguard your rights?

These are critical questions, and CNET put together an excellent deep dive on what’s at stake. Attorney Chris Roberts offered his thoughts to CNET

There are many myths about class actions lawsuits.

For example, many people think you need hundreds or thousands of people to file a class action lawsuit. But here’s the truth: it only takes ONE person to get the ball rolling.

That’s right - just one individual can stand up, take action, and represent an entire group of people who have been harmed.

Attorney Chris Roberts was featured yesterday in Newsweek for the fourth time this year to provide his insights about this common misconception and the growing impact of data breach class actions. With companies handling more personal data than ever, these cases are becoming increasingly significant.

What should you do if you see a class action settlement but are not sure if you are eligible to make a claim?

Attorney Chris Roberts provided his insights on this issue to Newsweek this week.

Tip #1: Contact the settlement administrator to see if you can submit a claim/are a class member. The settlement administrator's contact information is usually on the settlement website and the class notice.

Tip #2: If you cannot reach the settlement administrator, contact the Plaintiff's lawyer, also known as class counsel, to ask this question.

Tip #3: Do not submit false claims. You should not submit a claim in a class action settlement if you are not truly a member. With fraudulent claims on the rise, settlement administrators and courts are cracking down on fraudulent claim filers.

Have you recently received a text message saying you owe a toll fine?

Attorney Chris Roberts sat down with preeminent reporter Mike Colombo of Fox2Now to discuss what these text messages are about and what you should do if you receive one.

Toll scam warnings have been mounting for nearly a year. Last March, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul released an alert, and the FBI did the same a month later.

We are proud to announce that the hard work of Butsch Roberts & Associates and our co-counsel Jacob U. Ginsburg of Kimmel & Silverman, P.C. led to final approval of a $2 million class action settlement in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.

While some class actions result in small payments to class members, we are incredibly proud of the fact that each of the over 2,700 class members who submitted claims will receive an average of $450.

This class action concerned unsolicited robocalls placed to consumers in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and violations of the Texas Business and Commerce Code for placing such calls without the proper licensure.

This achievement was a true team effort. Special recognition goes to our class representative, Candice, for her exceptional advocacy and unwavering dedication to the case.

Last, we extend congratulations to our opposing counsel for their professionalism, pragmatism, and fierce representation of their client. This settlement exemplifies how positive working relationships can lead to successful outcomes for all parties involved. It serves as a reminder that effective advocacy can coexist with respect and collaboration.

There is a lot of misinformation about what consumers should do when a debt goes into collections. The truth is that there is no universal answer. Chris, however, offered a couple tips that apply in almost all situations.
