Driving while suspended or revoked in Missouri is not “just another ticket.”

The new case can carry criminal penalties and driver’s-license points, while the original reason for the suspension or revocation still has to be fixed separately.

Do you need SR-22 insurance to reinstate a Missouri driver’s license?

The honest answer: not everyone does.

An SR-22 is a filing from an insurance company showing liability coverage. Whether Missouri requires it—and whether it must remain for two or three years—depends on the exact action on your driver record.

Before you click “Pay,” pause.

For many Missouri traffic tickets, paying the fine is not simply a way to make the ticket disappear. Payment may be treated as a guilty plea and result in a conviction.

Depending on the charge, that conviction could affect your:

• Driver’s-license points
• Insurance costs
• Employment
• Commercial or professional license
• Ability to keep driving legally

Not every minor ticket requires an attorney. But you should understand the possible consequences before making that decision.

Have questions about Missouri traffic tickets, DWI charges, driver’s-license points, or changes in the law?

McClain Law’s blog is now public—and we’re building it around the questions Missouri drivers actually ask.

You can currently find plain-language information about:

• What to do during the first 15 days after a DWI arrest
• How Missouri’s point system works
• What can happen when you simply pay a traffic ticket
• Missouri’s new DWI and speed-limit laws taking effect August 28

These articles provide general information, not advice about a particular case. Our goal is to help people understand the problem, recognize important deadlines, and ask better questions.

🚔 You know that feeling…

You look in the rearview mirror and see red & blue lights.

The music gets turned down…
You check your speed… even though it’s too late. 😅

If you ended up with a traffic ticket, don’t let it cost you more than it has to.

🚨 "I've paid my tickets... so why is my license STILL suspended?"

That was the question.

The answer had absolutely nothing to do with the tickets.

When we started digging into the case, we discovered something most people would never think to check...

A bankruptcy.

The client assumed paying traffic tickets would solve everything.

It didn't.

Before we could move forward with getting the license back, we first had to understand how the bankruptcy affected the outstanding obligations and what steps could legally be taken next.

💡 The lesson?

If your license has been suspended for years, don't assume you already know why.

Sometimes the issue isn't the ticket.

Sometimes it's something hiding in the background that completely changes the game.

That's why the first thing we do isn't tell people to start paying.

We figure out what's actually standing between you and getting back on the road.

🚨 This guy spent over $1,000 paying traffic tickets... and his license was STILL suspended.

Why?

Because he was fixing the wrong problem.

He was convinced his old traffic tickets were the reason he couldn't drive. So he started paying ticket after ticket, hoping his license would magically come back.

It never did.

When he came to my office, we dug deeper.

The traffic tickets weren't what was holding up his license anymore.

The real issue? A child support suspension.

No matter how many tickets he paid, he wasn't getting his license back until that issue was addressed first. Once we obtained the documentation needed to resolve the child support suspension, we were finally able to move the license reinstatement process forward.

💡 The lesson?

Don't assume you know why your license is suspended.

I've seen people spend hundreds—even thousands—of dollars trying to fix the wrong problem.

Sometimes it's traffic.
Sometimes it's child support.
Sometimes it's something else entirely.

The first step isn't paying every ticket you can find.

The first step is figuring out what's actually stopping you from driving.

Have you ever been told your license was suspended and had no idea why? 👇
