Did you know California's SB 371 quietly cut Uber and Lyft's uninsured motorist coverage by 94% — effective January 1, 2026?

If you're riding in an Uber or Lyft and an uninsured driver causes a crash, the rideshare company's coverage is now capped at just $60,000 per person. A single hospital stay in Southern California can eat through that fast.

The good news: the $1 million liability policy when the rideshare driver is at fault remains intact — and there are still ways to fight for full compensation.

We break down exactly what changed, what didn't, and what to do if you're hurt.

SB 371 slashed Uber & Lyft insurance in 2026. Learn what changed and how Southern California rideshare accident victims can still recover.

Trump is threatening to sue the BBC for $1 billion over a documentary that aired before the 2024 election. The BBC documentary spliced together comments Trump made 54 minutes apart during his January 6, 2021 speech, making it appear he said "We're gonna walk down to the Capitol and I'll be there with you and we fight. We fight like hell". Trump actually said "We're gonna walk down to the Capitol and we're going to cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women," and then 54 minutes later told supporters to "fight like hell". BBC Director-General Tim Davie and News Chief Deborah Turness both resigned Sunday. Trump's lawyer gave the BBC until Friday to provide a "full and fair" retraction and compensation or face legal action in Florida. BBC Chair Samir Shah apologized Monday, calling it an "error of judgment" that "did give the impression of a direct call for violent action". Legal experts doubt Trump can prove harm since no one noticed the edit for a year. Valid defamation case or attempt to intimidate the press?

Trump added a paper sign with gold cursive writing reading "The Oval Office" outside the actual Oval Office door, first spotted by CNN's Kaitlan Collins on November 5th. The large script lettering appears to be printed on paper, likely serving as a mockup of what the real sign will look like. The font is similar to one used at Mar-a-Lago, both using variations of Shelley Script Pro Regular. Critics online have compared it to Cheesecake Factory signage, wedding reception decor, and "Eat Pray Love" wall art. Political strategist Chris D. Jackson photoshopped a fake tagline reading "Paid for by Elon Musk and Chevron". Governor Newsom's office created a mock image reading "Live, Laugh, Lose" instead. Trump has spent months adding gold accents throughout the White House, including gold door frames, coasters, fireplace ornaments, and renovating the Lincoln Bedroom bathroom with gold fixtures. Is this peak Trump aesthetic or embarrassing overkill?

A California judge denied Roblox's motion to force a child exploitation case into private arbitration, allowing the lawsuit to proceed publicly. In 2023, a father created a Roblox account for his 13-year-old son using parental controls. A year later, he discovered a predator had contacted his son through Roblox's messaging system, moved the conversation to Discord, and bribed the boy with Robux gift cards in exchange for explicit images. The predator then threatened to release the images and the family's home address. Police identified the suspect as a known serial predator believed to have exploited at least 26 other children. The family filed suit in February against Roblox and Discord, and the family has since moved across the country for safety. Roblox faces over 35 similar lawsuits, with attorneys investigating thousands more cases. State attorneys general in Louisiana, Kentucky, and Florida have also taken legal action, calling Roblox a "breeding ground for predators." Platform negligence or unavoidable online risk?

Spotify is facing a class action lawsuit filed November 5th by subscriber Genevieve Capolongo, who claims Discovery Mode is a deceptive pay-for-play scheme disguised as personalized recommendations. Capolongo preferred indie artists like Próxima Parada and Julia Cooper, but her playlists kept serving Drake, Justin Bieber, and Zach Bryan. Discovery Mode, launched in 2020, allows artists and labels to boost visibility on algorithmic playlists by accepting reduced royalty rates instead of paying cash upfront. Spotify admits that commercial considerations may influence recommendations but won't disclose which songs are paid placements. The lawsuit seeks over $5 million and class action status for 100 members, plus an injunction requiring transparency. Spotify calls the lawsuit "nonsense." Should streaming platforms be required to disclose when financial arrangements drive recommendations?

The California Republican Party filed a federal lawsuit on November 5th, one day after voters approved Proposition 50 with 64% support. The measure replaces California's independent commission maps with Democrat-drawn maps for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 elections, potentially flipping five Republican House seats to Democratic control. The GOP lawsuit alleges the maps violate the 14th and 15th Amendments by drawing districts based on race to favor Latino voters without legal justification. Democrats argue Prop 50 counters Texas Republicans' own gerrymandering at Trump's request to protect the GOP House majority. The lawsuit was filed by Dhillon Law Group, founded by Trump's DOJ official Harmeet Dhillon. Newsom's office dismissed the suit, responding "Good luck, losers." Standard politics or unconstitutional gerrymandering?

A Virginia jury awarded Abby Zwerner $10 million after finding former Assistant Principal Ebony Parker grossly negligent for ignoring multiple warnings that a six-year-old had a gun at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News. On January 6, 2023, Zwerner was shot while teaching first grade. The bullet went through her hand and lodged in her chest, narrowly missing vital organs. Multiple staff members had alerted Parker about the weapon that day, but no action was taken. Zwerner sought $40 million in damages. She spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, required six surgeries, and has lost full function of her left hand. The bullet remains in her body. Parker faces a separate criminal trial starting November 17th on eight felony child neglect charges—one for each bullet in the gun. Each count carries up to five years in prison.

Two federal judges ordered the Trump administration to use emergency SNAP funds after the USDA froze food stamp benefits during the government shutdown. The administration claimed it couldn't legally use the $5.3 billion contingency fund, but judges in Rhode Island and Massachusetts ruled the law requires it. SNAP costs $8-9 billion monthly, so recipients will receive approximately 50% of their November benefits instead of nothing. Nearly 42 million Americans—one in eight—rely on SNAP, which averages $350 per household monthly. The shutdown began October 1st, and the USDA froze SNAP on October 10th. Trump claimed his lawyers said he lacked legal authority to pay benefits, but both judges rejected that argument. Was this a constitutional crisis or necessary judicial intervention?

King Charles took unprecedented action on October 30th, stripping his brother Prince Andrew of his "Prince" title and evicting him from Royal Lodge mansion. Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, faces renewed scrutiny following the posthumous release of Virginia Giuffre's memoir detailing allegations of sexual abuse. Andrew settled a civil lawsuit with Giuffre in 2022 but continues to deny all allegations. This marks the first time a British prince has been stripped of the title in over 100 years—the last occurrence was in 1917 under the Titles Deprivation Act. Buckingham Palace called the censures "necessary" despite Andrew's denials. Is this accountability for serious allegations or damage control for the monarchy?
