We are overjoyed to finally share that Attorney Christine Ficker won asylum for her client before an immigration judge! Christine and her client have been working hard for years on this case and he has finally been granted the protection he so desperately needs and a better future for himself and his family. 🎉

Attorneys Sarah Cynthia Larcade and Lera Khubunaia attended an event hosted by the Mauritanian Network for Human Rights in the US on Friday, November 28, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

November 28 is Mauritania’s Independence Day, but a solemn day for Black Mauritanians. It commemorates the day in 1990 when 28 Black Mauritanian soldiers were hung by the government, leaving widows and orphans searching for answers and justice to this day.

Cincinnati is home to large population of Black Mauritanians who have fled persecution in their home country, but never give up the fight for justice and human rights. We are so glad to have been invited by community leader, and Larcade Law interpreter, Ousmane Toure.

It’s our honor to serve these brave men and women, and listening to so many powerful testimonies was not just moving but very helpful to us as we advocate for our clients in their asylum cases.
