The San Bernardino County Superior Court is now open for all matter with business as usual in this “new normal” era.

The “new normal” requires the wearing of face masks, social distancing, only attorneys and litigants permitted in the courthouse (friends of litigants must wait outside), judges permitting only as many people in the individual courtrooms so as to maintain social distancing.

Orange County Superior Court and Riverside County Superior Court are still not permitting in person court proceedings/appearances (except for emergency proceedings and domestic violence matters). They require attorneys and litigants to appear by way of video conferencing.

Mask up and let’s go.

A quick update on court closures: All-local family law court houses are CLOSED for ALL non emergency hearings until at least April 3, 2020.

I’ve seen some posts asking the question “are my child custody and visitation orders still in effect or still apply during the Coronavirus epidemic? The answers is “YES”. An order is an order is an order so don’t play keep away with your children by using the epidemic as a reason to withhold your child(ren) from the other parent when it is her/his parenting time.

2019 Tax Update:

Effective January 1, 2019 and with the new tax laws, spousal support will no longer be a taxable event which means that all judgments entered on or after January 1, 2019 will not be characterized as income for the payee and will not be a recognized deduction for the pay or.
