Cook County Landlords be aware!!! You are now subject to new landlord tenant laws that mirror the laws in Chicago. Do not sign a new lease without reading the ordinance.

In January 2021, the Cook County Board of Commissioners passed a new Residential Tenant Landlord Ordinance (RTLO). This ordinance goes into effect on June 1, 2021. You can find the full ordinance at cook-county.legistar.com.

Ms Rodriquez, a landlord, has spinal cancer. Because her tenants are refusing to pay rent and are selling drugs from her apartment, she has to work 6 days a week to pay her mortgage, the Tenant’s heat, Tenant’s gas and water. She can't even afford to pay her car or to visit her mother. Governor Pritzker's order does not take into consideration the hell Ms. Rodriguez has to go through, being forced to live with tenants in her building who are refusing to pay rent while dealing drugs. Yes she can evict but attorney fees are now double thanks to motions that have to be filed.
