I just added a series of informative videos covering the basics of bankruptcy produced by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. Check it out!

I love documentaries. It’s easier (and more entertaining) for me to learn something new by watching a video than by reading a book.

It is H-O-T outside! But not having air conditioning because ComEd shut off your electricity can make life miserable or even dangerous.

When you file for bankruptcy, utility companies must stop shutoff activity and restore disconnected service. You will have to pay a security deposit, but you will get it back, plus interest, after you have made 12 on-time monthly payments.

High gas prices? High food prices? Unemployment?

What do you think is causing the rise in late credit card payments?

The percentage of consumers delinquent on their credit card payments rose to 3.40 percent in the first quarter.

Look for an increase in short sales due to new government incentives coming in April:

Attention Illinois Parents:

Do you have a pre-schooler born between September 2nd and December 31st? Until recently, your child had to be 6 years old by September 1st in order to enter first grade. This can be pretty frustrating if your child is ready for first grade but *just* missed the age cutoff.

There may be hope for you. Effective 1/21/10, a new law has lowered the age cutoff for admission to first grade to 5 years old for children who:

1. Will turn 6 years old by December 31st;
2. Attended preschool and kindergarten at the same private school;
3. Were taught by a "certified" kindergarten teacher; and
4. Pass a readiness assessment.

Additional age exceptions apply if your school district has a full-year school term.
