We're excited to announce that we're rebranding our law firm as Zlatkin Cann Entertainment. As the new name suggests, we'll be focusing primarily on the entertainment and media industries, bringing our knowhow and passion to help clients navigate legal considerations in the creative space.

For those that aren't aware, the "Cann" involved is Ilya's wife and partner, Cambi Cann. Cambi is an accomplished attorney in her own right, having 17+ years of experience in commercial real estate and finance. Over the past year-plus, Cambi has been working behind the scenes at the firm to get more and more involved in the entertainment industry.

We'd also like to take a moment to thank our former partner, Jennifer Wong, for all her hard work in building this firm's foundation. She was instrumental in our early successes, and we wouldn't have achieved where we are now without her gargantuan efforts.

Most importantly, we want to thank our clients across all industries. A large proportion had always been involved in the entertainment and media space, and our work with them will continue same as before. For the many clients who do not consider themselves to be involved in entertainment and media, you can still consider us a resource. To the extent that it still makes sense for everyone, we'll continue to provide the same types of legal services. If it no longer makes sense to continue working together, we will make sure to help you find other trusted counsel.

As we move forward as Zlatkin Cann Entertainment, we are excited for this new chapter and look forward to continuing to provide our clients with exceptional legal services and industry insights.

We’d like to congratulate our Managing Partner Ilya Zlatkin for recently having been admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana. Ilya has been licensed in Illinois since 2013 (and had previously been admitted in DC, where he now holds inactive status). While our firm has worked with clients throughout the United States and in dozens of other countries, this additional law license will allow us to broaden the scope of our offerings within . It will also enable us to expand our outreach within the Hoosier State.

You Can Negotiate Intellectual Property Rights:

Did you know that you can negotiate intellectual property rights with your clients or contractors? Many people assume intellectual property, or IP, rights are binary — either one party holds them or the other does. They may feel backed up against a wall when they read a contract with provisions about work-for-hire, exclusivity, “perpetual throughout the universe in any and all media, whether now known or hereafter devised,” yada-yada-yada.

They don’t want to sign over so many rights, but they think it’s either sign on the line or lose the opportunity.

In fact, there’s a world of middle ground between any two extremes in an IP agreement. Very few things are truly non-negotiable — it’s really only a matter of what you’re willing to give up at what price.

This means you should feel free to negotiate IP rights and come to terms that both parties find acceptable.
