Big News from the UN!
The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs voted yesterday to accept a World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation to remove cannabis from the highly restrictive Scheme IV of the 196 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. That’s a lot of international law speak for saying the UN now recognizes the medicinal value of cannabis. This action is likely to result in a relaxation of some national laws and help promote medical research. Congratulations UN and WHO. Stay tuned to Cannabis Law for updates on this story.

Big news from the UN!
The United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs voted yesterday to accept a World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation to remove cannabis from the restrictive Schedule IV of the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs. This is a big step and means cannabis can now be recognized for its medical value by the WHO. The likely result is new support for changing national laws and promotion of medical research. Thank you UN and WHO!

420 in the Era of COVID-19
4/20, that celebrated, maybe frivolous reference to the cannabis culture, is now a major calendar event for a growing number of people. Whether to take a break at 4:20 PM, or recognize the worldwide cannabis enterprise, 4/20 is our day and our time. It’s okay that others don't recognize it or even know what it is.
This year 4/20 means something different though. There will be no large gatherings, speeches or celebrations; no smoke-filled corners in defiance of cultural norms of the past. Today we will celebrate 4/20 as we do most things in the era of COVID-19 - socially distanced, by video, at home.
The cool thing though about 4/20 and the spirit it represents, is similar to what is needed to get through the COVID-19 Pandemic. A sense that we can do this, that we are not dependent solely on the cultural norms and dictates of the world we inherit. Don't get me wrong, we should observe, and strictly observe, social distancing and other mitigation efforts, and we must cheer and support healthcare workers, but for those to whom the counterculture has been an everyday thing i.e. those who recognize 4/20, the rugged spirit that guided them in the era when cannabis was an underground product, that spirit of perseverance, will get us through this current crisis and that spirit can be an inspiration to the world.
Cannabis has gone from contraband to essential (in some places). If that's not a statement for overcoming the difficulty ahead of us, then what is. Today COVID-19 threatens our health, our economy and our way of life, but we know that there is a safer and better day ahead.
So let's enjoy this day however you choose to recognize it, and take a moment to feel triumphant in your victory over the past and give vision to what we know about our current challenge. We can know how to cope and overcome. Stay healthy, Be safe

History was made today!
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a bill into action Tuesday that legalizes recreational ma*****na in the state. The law takes effect Jan. 1, 2020.

CONGRATULATIONS to the people of Illinois who last night earned the right to legal adult use ma*****na. The Illinois General Assembly approved the measure paving the way for safe, controlled and regulated use along with criminal justice reform and social equity for citizens looking to participate and benefit from adult use ma*****na. Common sense laws that address the abuses of the failed war on drugs and help fight the op**te crisis are needed everywhere. This is another step toward justice and equity in the use of cannabis.

“Pritzker said he looks forward to signing the bill into law. Recreational ma*****na could be legal in Illinois as soon as January 1, 2020.”
Illinois is on the verge of making recreational ma*****na legal. The Illinois House voted 66 to 47 to pass the recreational ma*****na bill on Friday afternoon.
