The notable list recognizes women in the legal profession for their professional accomplishments, leadership roles, dedication to mentoring activities and community involvement.

Jennifer, a Partner in the firm’s Private Client, Trusts & Estates practice, helps clients with their estate planning for tax-efficient wealth after death, assists with their not-for-profit organization formation and advises them on estate and gift tax matters. She is passionate about philanthropic endeavors and has provided pro bono services to immigrants, low-income taxpayers and seniors.

Sam, a Partner in the firm’s State & Local Tax (SALT) practice, advises clients on tax litigation and controversies. She is on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Administration Committee for the Chicago Tax Club and serves as the Chair of the State and Local Tax Council for the Illinois State Bar Association. Sam is well-known in the SALT community and is a frequent speaker at esteemed conferences and seminars.

Congrats Rick S. Rein and Nathan E. Delman on securing a nondischargeability ruling in a Chapter 7 case on a $10 million claim after a two-day trial in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada. The claim involved a loan that was obtained under false pretenses, resulting in a non-dischargeable debt in favor of the client. Huge win for HMB’s Litigation team at the Illinois Supreme Court! Congratulations Litigation Partners Hal J. Wood and Matthew R. Barrett on securing a unanimous decision in a contested will case. They successfully defended their hard-fought trial court win and appellate decision in favor of HMB’s client that allowed the client to retain control over the disposition of her late-husband’s company. The Illinois Supreme Court opinion is an important win for HMB’s client. It is also significant because it clarifies how the existence of powers of attorney may impact the application of Illinois’s presumption of undue influence test and may impact how estate planning professionals draft powers of attorney for property for married individuals as well.
