Over the past few weeks, I have spoken with dozens (maybe 100+) of members of the Class of 2020. I cannot help be anything but truly inspired by what I have heard from them. Coming down the stretch of the most important transiti
on of their lives, out of nowhere, they have been dealt a once in a lifetime blow. Their last year of college has been prematurely and abruptly ended. They have had their job search thrown into total disarray, or worse yet, had their offers rescinded. The one's whose offers have not been rescinded are still filled with unease about if/when their job might be taken away as well. Not one of them have expressed even the slightest bit of self pity or anger. In fact, I have heard many of them say "it could be a lot worse." They have certainly been disappointed. That's normal. However, they are still still optimistic and excited to join the workforce, whenever that may be. Say what you will about Generation Z (or whatever we are calling them these days), but if what I have seen/heard from them in the most tumultuous time most of us have ever experienced is any indication of their future contributions, we will come out of this pandemic in great shape.
To anyone in the class of 2020 who has been negatively impacted, I would be happy to lend an ear or any advice I can. I am by no means an expert in anything but I have more than 7 years experience as a recruiter, I have hired people onto sales teams, practiced law, and owned my own business. There has to be a pearl of wisdom in there somewhere, and I'd be happy to share.
