The most ambitious building for which the foundation was never dug.

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1956, "The Illinois" was an ambitious proposal for a mile-high skyscraper in Chicago that would have reached a staggering 5,280 feet.

Though the design called for a revolutionary 528 stories, the project was never built due to the massive technological, safety, and economic limitations of the era.

Rather than a practical blueprint, many architectural historians now view this conceptual titan as a brilliant, provocative statement from an aging master designed to challenge the limits of human imagination.

Today, the project stands as a fascinating "what if" in architectural history, serving as the bold vision that helped push the boundaries for future super-tall structures.

Gov. JB Pritzker and Illinois legislators will have to regroup to figure out if there’s a strategy to keep the Chicago Bears from leaving for Indiana.

The Illinois Senate came up with a very different plan — one that allows creation of local stadium authorities that could build or at least own a stadium for the team — than the House of Representatives, which provided a framework for long-term property tax incentives.

The Senate bill passed early this morning was not called for a vote in the House before the General Assembly wrapped up its spring session.

The Bears have said they want to make a decision on whether to stay in Illinois or move to Indiana by late spring or early summer. The team hasn’t said whether it will stay or go to Hammond, Ind.

The plan that emerged in the Senate was different than the long-term property tax incentive deal that had been discussed for months. It’s not clear whether the Bears are interested in the idea.
